Are you a user of Foursquare? Ever use your Check-in tips for naughty language? Well, check out this write up in The Huffington Post today. Although a city in the states did not get the #1 spot, U.S. citites made up 18 of the 20 top spots of the Foursquare. The results were based on what users wrote when checking in. They did this data test to have a fun example of reports they could pull for their non-techy peeps.
It's great to ring in a new year. The year went by rather rapidly. We may not even remember some of the things that happened this year. The following are some events that I found, ehem, important to look back on for each month of 2010:
January - Giant Snow Fall hits the UK and Ireland. I know, deja vu right? Had the weather waited just another month it would have been like an anniversary to celebrate last years snow hastle, of course including several other coutries of Europe.
Accourding to TechCrunch it looks like Twitter is gearing up to start their second round of raising more money for the 140 character status updating application. The goal is to raise $3 billion in valuation, the last time Twitter went in search for funds, they were able to raise a total of $100 million at a $1 billion valuation.
In case you're getting bored with the very generalized Social Network of Facebook, you can most likely find a more specifically centralized Social Networking site out there! On Huffingtonpost.com today, Catherine Smith posted about the 19 Strangest Social Networks on the web. It was interesting to see what is out there. Who knew hamsters had their own place separate from other adorable furry friends.
I don't know about anyone else, but I would have to consider Conan O'Brien the King of talk show. I LOVE him to bits and find him completely different from any of the other Late Night Talk Show hosts on the air. Through all of the waves he has gone through in the past year and a half, he's taken it all in strides using social media, after NBC had O'Brien sign an agreement that he would not go on the air for 9 months after leaving NBC.
Last night we had the honor of participating in Maven Chicago's Diva event co-hosted by Diva-tize author, Kathy O'Leary. It's really cool to see other divas and hear their stories. Kathy DJ'd at Studio 54 back in the day and was even an extra in "Saturday Night Fever"! Her new book is about maintaining your diva status on a budget, which is super benificial for those of us divas dealing with the resession!
Facebook has finally changed the layout of the very popular Facebook Pages. The soft upgrade, which is by admin choice, has started today. By March 10th, Facebook will change over all Facebook pages. You may have noticed the accidental change back in December. What I think is amazing about this new change, is not the redesign, but the functionality given for an admin to login as a page and "like" comment on other pages and profiles and just about everything a regular user gets to do.
Moments after the clock struck 12:00 a.m of our new year in 2011, Twitter users were of course Tweeting about it. A total of 6,939 tweets per second beginning seconds after the new year began.
Ben Parr Co-Editor of Mashable makes different assumptions of what he believes Facebook will do with all of their money. Facebook has prospered to an all time high of $50 billion! Rising from its September worth between $23 billion and $33 billion and in November $41 billion. Mashable asks What will Facebook do with all that money?
